PHILOSOPHY & CURRICULUM

Philosophy

At Aloha Keiki Preschool, we believe that each child has an infinite capacity to learn and grow. Children thrive when they are supported in a safe, nurturing environment where they feel valued, respected, and connected.
We view learning as an active, hands-on process. Through play, exploration, and meaningful relationships, children are encouraged to follow their natural curiosity and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Our teachers are passionate and knowledgeable, thoughtfully guiding each child’s development through engaging, age-appropriate experiences. Using a balance of structured curriculum and child-directed learning, we support growth across all developmental areas.
We are committed to:
  • Celebrating the whole child
  • Building positive relationships
  • Encouraging creativity and self-expression
  • Fostering independence and confidence
  • Creating a strong sense of community and belonging

Our Curriculum

At Aloha Keiki Preschool, we use the Experience Curriculum as the foundation of our program. This research-based curriculum supports hands-on, play-based learning that nurtures the whole child.
Each month, children explore engaging themes through activities that build skills in:
  • Language and literacy
  • Math and problem-solving
  • Social-emotional development
  • Physical development
  • Creative expression
Our teachers thoughtfully adapt these experiences to meet the needs, interests, and developmental levels of the children in our classroom.
We align our program with the Hawaii Early Learning and Development Standards, which support growth across key developmental areas:
  • Physical Well-Being, Health & Motor Development
  • Social & Emotional Development
  • Approaches to Learning
  • Cognition & General Knowledge
  • Language Arts & Literacy
In addition to these foundations, we incorporate our own unique approach through nine guiding strands that reflect our values and community:
  • Child-Directed Activities
  • Family
  • Community
  • Global Cultures
  • Sense of Place
  • Safety & Wellness
  • Creative Arts
  • Literacy
  • Inquiry
By combining a proven curriculum with meaningful, place-based learning experiences, we create a program that supports each child as an individual while fostering a strong sense of connection to others and the world around them.
